Message Today was a bad day. I was under the hood this morning test fitting my Guapo style boost leak tester. When I was finished, I closed the hood easily as I always do(setting it down and then pushing down to lock it), making sure it was completely closed, and yes, it was totally closed.
Later on, I was driving into town to help a friend work on his RX-7. I was going about 50 ish when I heard a *clunk* noise that came from the front of the car. I immediately got on the brakes because It had sounded as if the hood popped open. Once I got down to about 35mph, WHAP!! My hood flew up and smashed into my windshield, leaving spider cracks from the washer nozzles, denting the roof piece above the windshield and destroying my carbon fiber hood which WAS flawless.
When trying to find out what had caused the hood to fly open, I looked at the hood and latch first, and all seemed normal. I checked the hood release handle and found it pulled half way out. I'm thinking that when I had opened the hood this morning the handle returned only half way. I played with a little and the handle would get stuck on the return. It felt like as if the cable had alot of tension on it as well. The latch has always been greased, but I never thought about the release cable until today. I sprayed the inside of the cable with WD-40 and now it works fine, but the damage has been done...

The windshield I'm not so pissed about because it was already cracked(that's why I had that stupid ENKEI banner covering it), but the roof part really pisses me of. I haven't got a clue as to how to get that fixed. Plus the hood being smashed sucks to, because I was planning to sell it once I get my stock hood re-painted. Does anyone know how much a windshield will go for and how much the roof will cost to repair?

Lube your cables guys.
